It all started in 1929 when our founder, José María Rovira Viza bought a small bakery in the heart of the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. In 1937, our founder's son, José Miguel, joined the bakery and turned it into an export soda cracker manufacturer. The term "export soda" was originated in the last century when crackers were exported from the U.S. to Puerto Rico. Then the name became so popular that people called any kind of soda cracker “export”. In the coming decades, despite World War II, the company kept growing and expanding.  With family savings and a loan from PR Industrial Development Company, the new corporation was registered in 1947 under the name of Rovira Biscuit Corporation. During that same year, he built the new factory to support its growth in demand. In the 50's, the company began to export their products to the East Coast of the United States and then to the Caribbean market. The third generation of the Rovira family joined the company in the 60's, bringing new ideas in technology and marketing, developing the Rovira brand until it became the #1 cracker among Puerto Rican consumers. In the 90's, a group of professional managers together with the fourth generation of the Rovira family took on the challenge of expanding its product portfolio and offerings in Puerto Rico and the foreign markets.

In 2010 new facilities were built in the outskirts of Ponce with an investment of $25 million, 100,000 square feet of highly advanced machinery and technology. It currently is the only cracker manufacturer in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean certified with Level 3 in SQF Quality. Our 250 employees are proud to create a large variety of crackers which are the top selling crackers in Puerto Rico’s market. In 2013, the brand Rovira is synonymous with quality.
